Swiss Army Knife

Victorinox Swiss Army knives are the classic mainstay of cubscouts.  These knives, with all the gadgets are used by more scouts then probably any other knife around.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Huntsman Pocket Knife is a great starter knife for your cub scout or boy scout.  It has great features like two different sized knives, scissors, and the small saw among others.

I have used this knife for 15 years and have to say it is one of my favorites.  It has a great size that fits well in an adults hand as well as children 8 and up.  Some of the Swiss Army knives with more gadgets are way too large to fit comfortably and the smaller ones don't have enough features.

Of all the gadgets, these are the ones I use the most:
  • knives, both are great for cutting wood and rope.  I use the smallet one for whittling.
  • scissors - are great for cutting paper and string
  • screw driver - has come in handy many times, even for screwing screws ;)
  • saw - the saw is amazing at cutting wood.  It is especially usefull for cutting twigs when you need to get skewers for the camp fire.
The only problem I have with the swiss army knives are when the scouts are just starting to use pocket knives then are a little hard to open and close.  But with a little practice that problem goes away quickly.

In all I think this is a great knife for scouts both starting out as well as older scouts.
