Cub Scout and Boy Scout Packs have some unique technology requirements. One of the main requirements is they need to have a website to let their members know when events are coming up and to use it as a recruiting tool for future scouts.
Another technology requirement is the ability to share information between members and especially to share information between the scout leadership. With the rapid turnover of scout leaders and den leaders, it is essential to have some method of recording and sharing information so that the pack can retain the knowledge gained. An example of this would be creating a document for an event like a spring campout. In the document you would list all the people that need to be called to schedule the event, all the food that was brought, all the activities that were done as well as any other information you can think of. The most important element however, would be what people thought worked, what could be improved and how it could be improved.
With longer institutional knowledge of events year to year through documentation, there is a better probability that the events could be improved upon every year. Also it makes the events easier to set up and plan for the volunteers. This site will show you how you can get a free website for your scout pack as well as tools to allow all your member to collaborate on documents through the use of Google Apps. |
